Humility

         When I left Roanoke I was given by my pastor a book by C.J. Mahaney called Humility True Greatness. It is a small book of only a hundred and forty pages and easy to read. I read most of it the week I received it and then pack it and a number of other books and headed west. It was not until recently that I found this book in the bottom of the bin of books and decided to finish reading it. That was a few days ago.

Today was my day off and I determined to spend it listing to messages delivered at the Desiring God Pastor’s Conference. The thrust of the messages was humility in the service of God and a biblical definition of success. I find it so easy to get wrapped up in what the world views a successful person to be and to forget what the word of God has to say on the topic. So I started looking up verses that deal with Humility and the way views Pride.

II Chr 7:14

Ps 149:4

Prov 3:34

Is 66:2

Mic 6:8

Col 3:12

Jam 4:6-10

I Pet 5:5,6

         These are just a few of the verse that I read along with their contexts and the following are my thoughts on God’s view of humility.

To come before the God that is both the creator and sustainer of all living thing with any thing but humility is simply irrational. How can we that profess to hold to the truth that God has made us inter into the life that he has given with such flippancy. This flippancy is truly a form of Pride. It pride because it rejects our accountability to God for our actions and the way in which we spend the time we have been given. If I have been Created by God and am Stained through his power is there anything which my pride is based upon?

Clearly the answer is No but that dose not seem to hamper pride in my own life as exemplified in my thinking that I know better then God. In recent astronomic discovery it has been determined that the amount of mass in the universe is so fine tuned that if a fraction of the mass of our sun were to be removed the universe would be unsuited for life. This fine tuning is to the magnitude of 10x20 that is 10 with a hundred and twenty zeros after it. The closest that man has ever achieved is 10x23. This means that God is at the very lest 10x97 times smarter then the most brilliant scientist in the world. All that to illustrate that God is infinitely wiser than any man or collection of men. Even knowing this I turn away from the reveled will of God in his word think I know better how to live life and find satisfaction then the God that made me and purchased my redemption on the cross.

All the rebellion I see in my heart makes me stand in aw when I read verses like Isaiah 55:-10 “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near; let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, that he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thought are not your thought, neither are my ways your ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher then the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  If those verse do not make clear the greatness of our salvation and foolishness of pride then pray that God will open the eyes of your mind to see. But if you do see the greatness of this sin of pride cry out to Christ that he supply you with the grace that you need to daily take up the cross and follow hard after Him. Oh may we find grace to be killing sin lest it be killing us.

VA-UT-CO

well it has been almost a mounth since i left roanoke heading for Bryce Canyon UT. It was a mostly boring drive of 2200 miles. I stayed in Bryce for ten day and completed my WFR. The classs work was fun and a times very funny. We had class in the morning and practicals in the afternoon. I only killed one person so that was Good!!!

after the class was over I came to Spring Canyon. Were global warming is having its full effect. We received ~ 6 in of snow just three days ago. the Mt. >12500 still have a good deal of snow so I don't think the guides will be able to summit this coming week.

Today we were able to finish rocks training and will be mountain biking this Sat. I'm realy looking forward to the summer and getting the first RMH in. This summer will be great as God blesses

(Ps. 63:1-4)

O God, you are my God;

Earnestly I seek you;

My soul thirst for you ;

My flesh faints for you,

In a dry and weary land were ther is no water.

So I have looked upon you in the sacturay,

Beholding you power and glory.

Because your steadfast love is better then life,

My lips will praise you.

So will I bless you as long as I live;

In your name I will lift up my hands.

Pray

How many times this day has your mind and hart turned to the Creator in prayer. “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”(2 Chr 7:14) We are called to turn from sin to God. In order to do this we must see God a more desirable then the sin that looks so attractive. You see the problem is that apart from the GRACE of God I can’t desire God more then sin. I think that is why we MUST humble our selves and cry to God to give us the desire to know Him. The great thing is that we have a promise from God that if we seek Him with our whole being He will give us the desire of our hart. That is an AWSOME promise but it is often misunderstood. You see if you seek God with your hole being the desire of your hart will be God. And he has promised to be near to those that draw near to Him. He will be our eternal reward as we worship around the throne for all eternity. If the thought of eternity in the presence of God is not appealing to you and you think that you are a christen I would think long and hard about my souls well being. But if you are in Christ I have good new. We need not wait until death to be ushered into the presence of God. In the book of Hebrews we are told to come boldly before the throne of grace because of Christ => what are we waiting for? May we be people that have a right view of GOD
